Following are some pictures of the back of the clutch basket of a 98 1500
Classic. These pictures are to demonstrate what Judge was talking about
when he referred to steel tabs on the back of the clutch basket that could
grab an oil pump gear.
Clutchbasket1.jpg = Back view of the clutch basket showing the tabs that
hold the springs into the clutch basket. Note the shiney spots on the ends
of the tab nearest to you where the oil pump gear has been rubbing against
the tab.
Clutchbasket2.jpg = A sideview of the clutch basket showing the tabs from a
different angle. Here you can clearly see the gear on the back of the clutch
basket that drives the OPG. You can see how closely the OPG will be running
against the tabs.
Straightedge.jpg = Showing a straightedge across the back of the gear to
check the height of the tabs.
hpat.jpg = High Precision Adjustment Tools (HPAT) used in first attempt to
adjust tabs. Needed a bigger HPAT .
