After seeing what F&S has available for a Nomad backrest I was disappointed. I could choose from a Contour, or a billet George Jetson style, or one that looks like the one for a Classic except the bottom arms are spread too far apart - the Gynecologist version. I wanted one close to the seat but not a functional eyesore. I opted for a hybrid. I bought a set of Nomad side plates and used a backrest assembly and the bolts for a 1500 Classic. Here are some instructions: After mounting the sideplates, temprarily bolt up the Classic backrest to the Nomad sideplates using the top two holes. Find your new hole location by marking through the remaining holes in the Nomad sideplates onto the Classic's backrest bar. After removing the Classic backrest, center the marks on the backrest bar and drill and tap the bar. (Believe it or not, the holes are 5/16 -18 thread, not metric) The lower holes on the Classic backrest bar are unused so just plug them with a bolt and install acorn nuts. When mounting the backrest bar to the sideplates, shim the mount by using two 5/16" stainless steel washers between the sideplates and the backrest bar at each bolt location. After lining everything up and tightening all bolts, measure the protruding bolt ends from the backrest and cut off enough bolt to accomodate an acorn nut (I cut 8mm off of each bolt). Do this by removing one bolt at a time (this keeps your shims in place). The end result is good looking, "custom", and because the pad is close to the seat the "Nomad angle" that everybody bitches about isn't an issue. BTW, the wire rack you see there is for a Classic too...the combo looks cool on a Nad!
