Many will have seen the commentary of Fart as he prepares for the New
Zealand Fletcher Challenge marathon in Rotorua next year.
This is an international event, easily comparing with London, and New York,
and certainly more challenging than either (except for the absence of smog).
My best time (when I was half the man I am now) was under 3:15 in the 25th
anniversary challenge on 29 April 1989, and the event incorporated the NZ
Amateur Athletic Association Marathon Championships and we were still in the
hey day of John Walker, Dick Quax, and a few other international gold
medalists.
A little over 12 years ago.
Here is a picture of me finishing. I ran this event for several years,
before burning out in a couple of adventure long distance events longer than
the 42.195km marathon distance.
You might recognise the face (thats all folks!) and understand the pressures
on our own Fart in completing, rather than competing the distance!
Incidentally, the venue is the city hosting our VDU event in 2002 -
Rotorua - thermal capital of Aotearoa.
