U-Turn has already posted an update on our
weekend ride, but let me say that both he and "Where's the fire?" Keith K. did a
super job of planning this ride.
Following are some of the highlights of our
ride...thanks to my new Nikon digital camera. Keith K. should be posting
some pics soon too as he also has a Nikon digital camera.
The first three pics are of our first scenic
stop overlooking Darimascotta Lake. Yeah... I'm sure I screwed up the
spelling of that one! ;)
From there, we cruised some neat back roads and
even had the joy of passing thru the world
famous Cow Shit Corner! Sorry... no pics
of that... juicy meadow-muffin was dripping off the camera lens. ;) A few
bikes did need to be disinfected. I've heard of bikes that LOOK like
shit.... but SMELL like shit??
We arrived in Camden around 2:30 PM and had a
great lunch at an old restore mill. There's a couple of shots of
folks stuffing their faces. The second shot features our only VT riders,
Glenn and Nora. Don't ask how many GALLONS of coffee Glenn "The Hoseman?"
consumed during this trip.... now ask how "wired" he is... heh
heh.
After lunch we rode up Mount Battie for a
gorgeous view of Penobscot Bay and Camden Harbor. It was still somewhat
hazy, but still a pretty site. Is that VROCer Bobcat and his wife, Jewel,
taking in the harbor view?
Time to check in to the hotel that U-Turn found
for us. Only one minor problem.. they knew Chris was a trouble-maker and
posted a warning sign.... ;)
The next few pics are some of our weary riders
relaxing and socializing. There's Bill and Pat Rhodes, along with Bill's
friends who rode Vulcan wannabees... HDs! Then there's our travel
coordinator, U-Turn, chatting with Charlie, Nancy and Bobcat... (yes
after persuading the innkeeper, he allowed U-ie to stay).
Ah yes... there's our friend from Vermont again. But not for long...
they're moving to NH! Damn! There goes the neighborhood. (Only
kidding Glen, but bring your own supply of coffee beans.)
After a short rest, a few brewskies and getting
to know each other, we headed into Lincolnville for a super dinner right on the
water. When we finally left, it was dark, the moon was full and there was
a nice breeze on the bay. I emerged from the restaurant and there she was
in all her splendor....
I call this next shot "OP's Moonlight
Sonata." (Actually... a pretty cool shot.)
Ah yes... Snow Hill Lodge early Sunday AM.
Ol'Phart was up with the rising sun, but where was everyone else??
So ends the OP's picture show of the Camden,
Maine ride. 20 bikes and 29 riders. Not a bad turnout. Let's
see what kind of turn-out we get for the 2nd annual NEVROC ride.
Ride safe!
Ol'Phart Joe
