Red "Floyd" Borgen Jr, age 67, of Bemidji, MN died Tuesday, May 20th, 2014, at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle of cancer. He was born in Libby, MT, on October 20th, 1946, to Floyd and June (McCann) Borgen. They raised him and his brother Rodger Borgen in Thief River Falls, MN. Red Graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN in 1964 and enrolled in the United States Navy. He served a three year term primarily in Germany and continued his membership in the U.S. Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association. He attended Thief River Falls Tech. He married Geraldean Mostrom on December 12th, 1969 and had his 3 children.
On February 17th, 1978, Red married Darla (Ahlgren) Borgen in Colorado Springs, CO. They were married for 36 Years. They moved back to Minnesota in 1980. Bemidji has been their home for the past 30 years.
Red managed National Transmission of Bemidji for 25 years. He was a certified Ace Mechanic and was well known as the go to guy for transmissions and enjoyed the people he worked with. Over the past 5 years Red was "semi" retired while delivering parts for Napa, he was able to continue his love of talking shop and staying in touch with his fellow car enthusiasts.
Red enjoyed many hobbies including having coffee with the naughty corner coffee clutch at the Eagles, deer hunting with family in Sebeka, MN, Motorcycling across country, and restoring old cars, but his favorite was being known as the "Perfect" Grandpa. Red was a member of the Eagles, the American Legion, VROC, and the American Legion riders of Deer River.
Red and Darla enjoyed vacationing, spending time at the lake with family, and making a nice home together. Many days and evenings were spent on their front porch enjoying the outdoors, long talks, and plenty of laughter.
Red is survived by his wife, Darla Borgen, brother Rodger Borgen, Thief River Falls, MN, Son: Jared (Elspeth Allen) Mostrom-Ose, Bemidji, MN, Daughters: Courtney(Kevin) Ritterman, Grand Forks, ND, Nichoel (Bill) Lorenz, West Fargo, ND; nine Grandchildren: Brittany Smith(20), Amber Smith(17), Orianna Thompson(14), Bemidji, MN, Lauren Ritterman (13) and Jake Ritterman(12), Grand Forks, ND, Jasmine Lorenz(21), Emily Lorenz(18), Kristen Lorenz(14) and Lucas Lorenz(7), West Fargo, ND. Nieces, Becky and Heather and Nephew Jon-Jon.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and June Borgen and an infant sister Rebecca.
