Highland House & Lake Geneva Run

Sunday, April 19, 1998

(Words and photos by Rick "Wolfman" Jakubas, VROC#3)

The day dawned sunny, albeit a bit chilly. Nevertheless, the official riding season got off to a great start with the first of Chicagoland's VROC Highland House visits.

As seen in this photo, there was a fine turnout of your local VROCers: Fred Zimbric, "Jake" Jacobs, "Taz" Maier, Dave "Wolfrider" Bechtel, "Evan" Breyn, Dave Solomon, "BlckChrome" Soland, and "Wolfman" Jakubas.

Sally "Kawgirl" Fleming, BlckChrome's SO was kind enough to take the picture.

We left the Hewitt Associates' parking lot and arrived at the Highland House. This restaurant is famous not for its (surprisingly good) breakfasts but for the fact that hundreds of motorcycles of all shapes, brands, and sizes gather here every Sunday morning. Checking out the various bikes allowed us to meet two Vulcan riders who became new VROCers: "English" Andy Welch and Ted Krug.

After breakfast, we hightailed it down the road, heading for Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

They said I was crazy, but here's a shot of Jake, followed by Fred, with BlckChrome & Sally (waving in the distance) that I took from my bike at about 65 mph. You can really see BlckChrome's lightbar shining.

Another shot of the group stopped at a light as we wound our way to Lake Geneva (left to right, front to back): Dave, Taz, my empty bike, Jake, Fred (unseen behind me), and BlckChrome & Sally (waving again). Do you get the feeling that BC & S are one of those couples that always wave at a camera?

Arriving in Lake Geneva, we parked our bikes and moesied over to Popeye's, a nice place to take in a couple cool ones and some hot chili.

You couldn't ask for a better day of riding, talking, and great friendship.
