The Windy City contingent of VROC met at the IHOP restaurant at the corner of 75th and Route 59 in Naperville on a beautiful Saturday morning. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, with just a hint of a breeze.
As some of us were finishing breakfast, we milled around in the parking lot, waiting for the rest of the group to join us.

Taking the obligatory "here we are in the parking lot getting ready to ride" shot, we "got ready to ride" and took off for Starved Rock.
As we hit the road, we discovered that one of our group stalled out. We pulled over into a convenient parking lot and waited for the rest of the riders to rejoin us.
After a gas stop and leisurely putt along Illinois' flat-country roads, we arrived at the Lodge at Starved Rock only 1 minute late from our announced ETA. We hooked up with Don Diehls from Southern Illinois and Brillo from Iowa. We spent more time looking at everyone's bike. It seems there's always something new to see on someone's bike; ain't it grand?
Riding into Utica, some of us did some serious damage to our credit cards at the Stonehead Leather shop. I know that Patsy really liked her new motorcycle boots. And I hope Taz found the great jacket he got useful on his trip back home.
Thinking we would save some time (right ... THAT really worked), we called ahead to Duffy's to reserve the back room for our lunch, then just hung out at the Stonehead.
Little did we realize that the smiling faces you see on VROC (picture taken at the beginning of our experience at Duffy's) would wind up disappearing as the "lunch" wore on. And on. And on.
The prophetic look on Bambi's face is priceless. How did she know right at the start that she would wind up NOT being served any food after waiting for 2 hours?
After our experience at Duffy's, we saddled up for a brief ride to J.C. Whitney. On the way there, we were interrupted at a train crossing, which gave me an opportunity to take some quicky shots of the group.
In spite of our ordeal at Duffy's, the day's trip to Starved Rock was a great time, since we spent it on the bikes and with good friends. Hope to do it again (except for the Duffy's part) soon.
