Fall Highland House Run

Date: November 14, 1999

(Story by BlckChrome; "Slick's Lament" by Slick; photos by Wolfman)

What a great day to welcome old friends and introduce new friends to the WCVROC.

The day was cool but ended up being a great ride. An early start at the meeting spot found 14 bike's (and one minivan) ready to rumble into the Highland House.

A sparse crowd found us staying for breakfast after we were sure there was enough Tabasco to go around.

After some interesting breakfast conversations, some grizzly veteran and virgin bikes fired up and were ready for break in. It reminded me of the time 2 years ago, after I got run over by a Lexus on the way to a Rainy Starved Rock Rock run. $3500 and 9 weeks later, I took my baby back out to meet Sally for lunch when I locked the front wheel up on a stone in a parking lot and laid her down. Not even 2 miles on the bike and she had a ding. Shit happens.

Well we headed North for a nice run to end at Kelly's Leather in Richmond, where I was lucky to find some house hot sauce.

The day's riders dwindled as commitments called but the day's enjoyment never wavered.

A great day with some great WCVROC'rs. Always a pleasure to ride with the "family."

Until next time.

Slick's Lament

Was cruising along at 70 when a lady in a van pulled along side and yelled out the window, pointing at the back of my bike, "Your lic. plate & lights, Your lic. plate & lights!" Pulled off onto the emergency lane, got off the bike & Oh Shit, the whole lic. bracket cracked off & the lic. frame & my chrome light set up was just hanging on by the 2 wires that ran inside the tail light. Scratched the paint a bit on the lower side fender & cracked & put a small hole on the top of the tail light lens cover.

Snipped the 2 wires & just tossed the whole set up in my saddlebag. Had a state cop behind me for 5 mins & for some reason he didn't notice I had no Plates or he didn't feel like pulling me over. I knew if he stopped me I'd just pull it out of the bag.

I guess the added weight of the light set-up & vibration is what did it.

In either case, enjoyed seeing all you guys, ridin a bit together, & getting to know a few of you a little better !! BTW.... BC was just saying how he liked those lights, maybe he put a HEX on em....hehehe Slick wcVROC 2903
